You know what’s worse than being jobless?
Being jobless and well-known. 😂
Because every time I even mention I’m looking, I get hit with:
“Nivedita Basu? Arre please! People must be lining up to hire you.”
Spoiler alert: They are not.
Apparently, I’m too senior for the juniors. Too hands-on for the execs. Too creative for the corporates. Too chill for the suits. Too known to be… unknown?
Basically, I’m in the Bermuda Triangle of employability.
Where DMs go to die and applications vanish without a trace.
I’ve applied to roles where I’ve literally built the same show 10 years ago — and still didn’t get a callback.
Wrote emails with more drama than a K-serial.
Even name-dropped myself once. (Don’t judge. Desperate times.)
And let’s be real — half the time, I’m applying to jobs I don’t even want.
But rent doesn’t care. iPhones don’t EMIs themselves.
So yeah, I keep refreshing LinkedIn like it’s Tinder for creatives.
But in all this chaos, I realized something:
If I’m going to be rejected, might as well be for something I actually care about.
If I’m going to hustle, let it be toward building something of my own.
That’s why I started What’s Your Callingg.
Not to pretend I have it all figured out.
But to remind myself — and others — that we’re allowed to rewrite the script.
So if you’re out there, scrolling job portals in pajamas, sipping lukewarm chai, wondering what the hell you’re doing with your life…
Welcome to the club.
Let’s laugh through the madness. And maybe — just maybe — find something real
